CRAZY hair day

Today was crazy hair day for spirit week. Both girls have been excited for two weeks, waiting for this day to come!! Brooklyn has been planning her "style" since they sent notes home two weeks ago. Her original plan didn't quite work out, but she was happy with the end result.



Brittany has also known what she wanted to do for a long time. We changed two pony tails to braids, and that is the only change to her original idea, but she was happy with the end product too!! What nuts!!

Spirit Week

This week it is spirit week at the elementary. The school mascot is a colt - so most of the days have a "western" type theme. Monday was "Western Day". The girls dressed up to the T. They both wore their hair in two braids, wore cowboy hats, western shirts (good thing IFA had a huge sale during the summer), levis, and cowboy boots. Brooklyn even sported some chaps. (Handmade by BJ by the way. Way to go!!) They both also took their hot pink ropes! (Also from IFA's unbelievable sale!!) BJ was pretty proud of them, and made sure I took a picture - we were almost late for school, so we didn't take much time to pose, but I still think they looked really cute!! After school BJ and the kids all had roping contests on Jensen's metal calf - heaven forbid you have a rope if you don't know how to use it!! I'm pretty sure a few kids got roped right along with the roping dummy - hmmmm.......good times!!

Winter Range

Last Saturday, BJ needed to go check on the cows on the winter range, so he saddled a bunch of horses and we all went with him. The weather was perfect, and it was really good to be out!! I was pleasantly surprised to see what good riders the kids are becoming! Some of the trails were pretty rocky and a little bit scary (for Brittany), but all the kids were troopers and got the cows to the corral. Once we were at the corral the kids had tons of fun off their horses as well. There is an old, fallen tree that the kids had fun climbing, and a sweet little perch at the top for them to sit in. Once they mastered the tree, it was off to the rocks! There are some pretty cool rocks at the top of the hill, and the kids had a good time in them! Madison, Brittany and Brooklyn all made "rooms" out of the formations, and they even had a kitchen and a toilet. They had a picnic in their "kitchen" too. After lunch, we looked for pottery pieces and chased lizards - but there were too many holes in the rocks for the lizards to hide in - we sure tried hard though!!

The Most Beautiful Girl . . .

Last night we were reading before bed, and we had just started another book in the wierd school series called "Miss Cooney is Looney." At the end of the first chapter, we discover that the 2nd grade thinks that Miss Cooney, the school nurse, is "the most beautiful lady in the history of the world." After I read that sentence, Brittany leans out of bed and asks to look at the picture. I show her the picture and ask, "Do you think that is the most beautiful lady in the hisotry of the world?" (see picture) Her reply (as serious as can be) was, "Nope, I am." For a minute I thought she was kidding around. But she truly believes that she is! Oh to have the confidence of a child!! I have to admit, I am pretty bias, but I think she is beautiful! Not to leave Brooklyn out though, together we decided that Brittany must be the most beautiful 7 year and 5 month old girl in the history of the world, Brooklyn must be the most beautiful 9 year and 1 month old girl in the history of the world, and Jensen is for sure the most handsome 5 year and 7 month old boy in the history of the world!! I love that they are so sure about themselves and not worried about what other people think of them!! Society will have them focused on their appearance soon enough. I want to bask in the NOW, when it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of them!! I truly think they are so beautiful, inside and out!!
