Peaches

Pretty much the entire week last week was spent doing peaches! I have never seen so many peaches in my life!! There was an orchard near Hovenweep that was giving away its peaches if you went and picked them. On a Saturday, Merlin, JJ, Asa, Kayela, and DeeAnn went and picked peaches. They filled the entire back of Merlin's truck!! Thanks guys for the pickin'!

Monday we got to work!! Tuesday we got to work! Wednesday we got to work!! We canned peach after peach after peach. Together we (all the girls) did over 315 quarts of peaches!

After we filled our bottles, we went to work on jam. I think all together, in one day we all did 15 batches of jam. (There may have been more - I think we lost count.)

It is such a fulfilling feeling to see all the bottles lined up and feel like we accomplished something! My sister-in-law's mom always says that she loves when she gets done canning, because it is a job that you can look at when it is done - and is a job that stays done! (unlike dishes or cleaning or laundry.)

Thanks everyone for all your hard work!!

Happy Birthday!!

Brittany just turned 7. Holy cow! I can't believe that she is that old!! I just want to freeze my kids at the ages they are and not them grow up anymore. They are so cute and so fun right now!!

We had a cake & ice cream at Grandma & Grandpa Grovers Sunday night! It is always so fun to have treats at their house on Sundays!!

Monday was her birthday. She opened two presents before she went to school, but wasn't feeling very well and so she looks really onery in all of her pictures. She must have started feeling better during the day though, because she was happy the rest of the day. She got to take her VIP poster to school that day, and birthday treats. (She wanted cosmic brownies.) I even got to go into her class and tell her class all about her!

That evening she played with her cousin and then we opened the rest of her presents and had cake and ice cream!! She was excited for her presents, but still needs to send some thank you notes out. (On her behalf - thanks everyone.) She asked for an egg cooker, so she could make her own boiled eggs, and she has turned in to quite a boiled egg chef! (If you can get her to share with you that is.)

Happy Birthday Brittany!

Too Much Fun

It has been a few weeks since I have posted - I guess things have really been busy. (I'll do another post in a while about the other things we have been doing.) No matter how busy we have been, the kids have found enough time to have lots of fun!! I think they had so much fun that they wore themselves out!

Two weeks ago, we got to have our nephew come and stay with us for almost a week! Jensen had so much fun while Ethan was here. They played and played - - - and played some more!! The funniest was watching them play "Cowboys & Indians". I don't how politically correct it is to play, but it was so cute to watch them all!! (They even had a teepee.)

Brooklyn's latest thing has been to make "chocolate fountains" out of mud and bricks! Yummy!! (Funny how mud seems to be a constant theme on my blogs.) I finally got the camera out the last time she did it and recorded the event. I don't think I'll be dipping any strawberries in their chocolate fountain.

The pictures and video are all below. Enjoy!

Speed "e" racer

Two nights ago our ward had a mother-daughter pine wood derby! At first I wondered what they were thinking - that was for scouts! But, it turned out to be a lot of fun!

Jensen saw our derby kit, and wanted to make our car, so we let him. (I'm pretty sure he had never seen one before and didn't know what it should even be like.) He made it alright - and had so much fun nailing all of the wheels on. Our only problem was that the wheels didn't stay on long enough to run the track. (I need to add that he made it ALL by himself - without any help whatsoever!) So, Brooklyn & Brittany borrowed a car from their cousin Asa. Thanks Asa!

His car did great - and it was a super cute #2 pencil!! We won two heats, and then in the finals we took second in our heat! We had a lot of fun and cheered really hard for our car to win! Brooklyn and Brittany were really excited because although we didn't win the final race, we won a prize for "THE MOST CHEERED FOR". When we came home we all had a nice drink of rootbeer we won and visited about how great Asa's car did. Way to race girls!! (Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures.)

Chef Benny

Last night Jensen and I went to take care of the garden. One of zucchini plants had been taken over by squash bugs, and I mean taken over!! UUGGHH!! Jensen told me that he thought there was 915, 915, 915, and 33 squash bugs. Later that night he told BJ that there were 93 million and 15. (Now that's a lot of squash bugs).

So we picked a zucchini, and brought it in to cook it. One of my favorite summer foods is fried zucchini. (I probably just like it because it is so dang fattening!!) It is a super messy food to cook, so I hardly ever cook it. But last night I just couldn't resist! Jensen decided to help me. He got his chair, scooted it over to the stove, and said, "Watch out for Chef Benny". Throughout the process, he kept referring to himself as "Chef Benny".

Chef Benny dipped the zucchini, floured it, and put it in the pan to cook! He was such a great help!! I had put the egg mixture and flour on a big sheetcake, hoping that it would catch some of the mess, but as you can see in the video, there was still a big mess anyway.

The process is really messy, and really slow, and by the time Chef Benny and I were done cooking all the slices of zucchini, he was beat! He was so tired that as soon as it was done he went to sleep. He didn't even eat a single piece of zucchini.

WARNING: The following video is extremely messy. It is not for the faint of heart. =)
