In the Q&A Jensen was asked "What do you like to do with your family". His answer was, "Play games". The interview went on for a minute, but Jensen wasn't super talkative.
For his talent, he was going to sing a verse of "Ring of Fire" and then rope his metal calf, but he decided while performing that he wasn't going to rope. The MC forgot to call him up once, and she asked if Jensen would forgive her . . . he said "no." She asked "please", he said "no". She tried and tried, but he just said "no." I guess this is a warning . . .don't get on his bad side!!! Besides not being forgiving, he did so great, I was so proud of him!! What a brave boy!!
The next night was the "Farm Bureau Talent Find". Our kids have been performing for four years. Every year we have received trophies and done really well! This year we weren't very prepared, but decided that if the kids wanted to try, we would let them.
Jensen sang "Davy Crockett" with his cousin Jace and was super cute! They even did it without music!
Brittany did a novelty act with her cousin Madison. They lip synced to "Do Your Ears Hang Low." The music was goofy singing, and the girls were upside down, with their faces and bodies covered, with big black ears and a body of goofy hanging down. Their chins were painted with eyes, and their mouths were upside down mouths. (You'll have to watch the video. The clip isn't very good, but it is all I could get on the computer at the moment.)
Brooklyn was signed up to sing "This Is Me" from "Camp Rock." She practiced and practiced at home and sounded awesome!! Just like a pop star!! (I had to take pictures of her hair, it was so pretty!! She looked like a pop star too!!) Right before her turn, she forgot some of the lyrics and chose, after great deliberation, not to perform, but to wait until next year. I was still so proud of her for trying! Brittany & Madison ended up taking 3rd place!! Way to go guys!!
Thursday was the mini-livestock show. Our county has a mini-program for kids who have completed kindergarten. That way they get experience for when they are old enough for Junior Livestock (going into 4th grade). Brooklyn's pig weighed 266 and was in the 2nd class, Brittany's weight 297 and was in the 3rd class. (We had wanted Brooklyn's pig at 270 and Brittany's at 280, but we aren't very experienced yet at knowing how to hold animals back a little.)
Brooklyn was the last pig called out before the star class was chosen, so she did really well, despite gettting hurt right before she went into the ring.
Brittany showed really well also and was called back for the star class. During the star class she showed her pig well, and ended up receiving 2nd Reserve!! Way to go Brittany!! Then they had to take care of their pigs until they sold them on Saturday.
The sell on Saturday went well, and the girls earned a lot of money for their savings accounts!! (I combined the videos so all the pig stuff was on the same video, so the show and sell are together. Sorry it isn't chronological.)
Friday was the junior livestock show. We had fun watching all of our cousins show their animals and we cheered them on!! Then that afternoon we all played in the family games. The fair has different activities that you can participate in and earn tickets which are used at the end.
The first event was the egg toss. All our kids did good, but their eggs cracked pretty quick. I didn't get any pictures because I was Brittany's partner. But there are pictures of cousins. BJ and I did the egg toss too, and were third in our group.
After the egg toss is was the hula hoop contest. Jensen and Brittany were in the first age group. Jensen surprised us when he got out there and really hula hooped! Brittany ended up winning her age group!! Brooklyn did well in her age group. BJ and I did horrible in our age groups (I still think they need bigger hula hoops for us bigger people!!) Brittany was called back for the finals, and ended up in third! They just kept going and going! Finally all the contestants had to hula hoop with their hands up, clapping, and singing "row row row your boat." Way to go Brittany!!
Next it was the limbo, we stayed in for awhile, but it got really low, really fast!! (I think at the end the winner was going 1'10".)
After we had all earned tickets, we waited for our ticket to get called for "Honey Money". The staff buries papers with dollar amounts on them in sawdust, then partners go to find the money. The catch is that one person has to have honey all over them, and when they find the papers in the sawdust, they have to stick the papers to the honey. They get whatever money is left sticking to them when time is up. Brooklyn and her partner Paisley ended up finding $24.50. Jensen and I ended up finding $13 (After his cousin Trevor gave him back the papers he stole from him during the dig!) We all had so much fun, and it was great to be there together and cheering each other on. (There aren't any pictures of the honey money, because a certain someone hasn't emailed me the pictures yet, so check back later.)
Friday night we watched the rodeo. Saturday we went to the sale, which took up most of the day! Saturday night we attended the rodeo too, but didn't watch a whole lot. because we were helping our kids with a great project.
Blanding had a pig club, and they wanted to earn money to donate to the families who lost their fathers in the plane crash. During the day, they sold raffle tickets for custom made chaps, and at the rodeo the little kids sold glow in the dark bracelets. It was so touching to see young kids who wanted to help, doing whatever they could to help!! I think between the raffle and the bracelets they earned about $500. Not bad for some young kids trying to help!! I think the tragedy affected all of us, but it also brings everyone closer! During the livestock auction, due to the generosity of two young boys, and a lot of buyers, almost $8,000 was earned to donate as well! When things go wrong, it is comforting to know that we live in a community where we all look out for each other and help each other!!
All in all, the week was very fun and very successful!! We all had a great time, and were glad when it was over so we could take a couple days to gear up for school starting!! (Can you guess what the next post will be???)

Holy hannah! You're so busy all the time. I don't know how you do it! Your kids are so dang cute. Way to go guys!
Your kids did such a good job at the talent show. I was way sad that i didn't get to see Brooklynn though.
